The club entered its 127th year with having to make the difficult decision to withdraw our third team due to player availability issues which had plagued all teams during the previous season. The exodus of many of the recent seasons 1st Team regulars also affected Uley’s ability to complete on a level playing field for the season, reflected by the final league positions achieved by both remaining teams.
The First team finishing Stroud League Division 2 in 13th (out of 13) with a record of 1 win, 4 draws & 19 defeats
The Reserve team finishing Stroud League Division 5 (South) 10th (out of 11) with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw and 17 defeats.
The First Team were not helped with a very unstable start to the season, with 2 managers coming and going before the league season started – Lee Daniels and Sean Large separately resigning due to other commitments taking precedence in their lives. Myself & Lee Hill stepped into the breach for the season.. Following on from the previous seasons poor end, the first team lacked the sufficient qualities needed to fight off relegation, albeit on reflection dropped points from winning positions in several home games proved decisive. However, over the season the players efforts couldn’t be faulted. And team camaraderie was at a high despite the results, much kudos goes to Joe Durcan, Leon Williams and Shaun Chapman for their affect on this.
The Reserves endured another tough campaign with management team of Chanelle Uzzell & Joe Gawenda. Albeit Chanelle left her role mid-season leaving Joe to very capably pick up the reins til the end of the season.
Unfortunately Uley did not experience any notable cup runs this season, albeit the 1st team did record some notable morale boosting victories – Beating Frampton res in the County Cup and Kingswood in the Charity Cup.
The Club’s disciplinary record, improved only slightly from the previous season, with the first team bearing the brunt. Mainly due to the reserve team not regularly receiving a registered referee on numerous occasions… The overall record, 4 Red Cards, 19 Yellow Cards & 1 Misconduct charge. The Misconduct charge came against the club playing a player whilst banned.
As is customary, it would be inappropriate to close without recording my thanks to the rest of the committee, for all their sterling work behind the scenes in helping me complete my ninth term as secretary. I wish all of the Club’s sides well for next season…
